SOUP, MAIN AND DESSERT!!WHAT MORE CAN U ASK FOR?

Dishes my partner Mavishna and I whipped up during our extra practical time. I think the dishes turned out well J. My favourite was the chocolate lava cake with the ice-cream. HEAVENLY!!!!! You guys, have to try out the recipe. You will not REGRET IT!!!!

SENSORY EXPERIMENTS - HAD A BLAST

PEPSI OR COKE?

I forgot how much fun it was to do sensory testing. My team was in charge of Pepsi challenge. Most people got it right. IMPRESSIVE GUYS!!!!!!!

SMELL A RAT!!!!

This experiment literally took my breath away. Seriously, one minute I was smelling something sweet and the next minute I was smelling curry powder (or what it seems like curry powder). Intense.

CAKE ANYONE!!!!

Cake experiment, I AM SO THERE!!!! I knew one sample was from Sara Lee. That shows how much cake I have eaten huh!!!!

SWEET DRINK!!! YUMMYYY!!!!

This drink was so sweet, it gave me a slight sugar rush which I loved by the way. Sweetness is my weakness.

BABY FOOD WITH A TWIST OF COLOUR

This was by far the most difficult experiment I have ever done. I couldn’t breathe properly and I felt that all the samples tasted the same. I couldn’t even tell whether it was sweet or bitter, it all tasted bland. Moral of the story, sense of smell is very important.

CHEESE!!!!!!

I thought I could identify the different types of cheese without a problem because I like to eat cheese. But I was so wrong!!!! There was a slight difference but the more I ate, the harder it was to differentiate between them.

ONLINE WEB RESOURCES

Online Web Resource No.1 - FUN FOOD FACTS

This website is all about fun facts about food. I mean literally fun facts like “the founder of McDonald's has a Bachelor degree in Hamburgerology”. Its sounds funny right!!! But there is actually a place called Hamburger University and MacDonald’s owns it.

This website could be useful for introducing subjects to students like fast food or can even be used an ice breaker. I think it will be bring an element of humour to the subject.

Online Web Resource No.2 - UNWRAPPED
http://www.foodnetwork.com/unwrapped/index.html

Unwrapped is an awesome show and whoever who is a food lover who has watched will agree with me. This programme is all about uncovering the process behind how commercial products like ice cream, salsa and even Tabasco sauce(which by the way takes years to produce).

This programme is useful for home economics especially when we want to methods of preservation. You can use the videos to show blast freezing methods and of course it can also serve a source of general knowledge for students.

Online Web Resource No.3 - FOOD PYRAMIDS

As we all know, food pyramids are a compulsory subject in home economics and some of our students may already know about it. That is where this website helps. It shows all the food pyramids that are used in the world (Asian, Mediterranean, Latin and many more) and they all differ from one another. This can be used as a bus-stop activity for lower secondary students to compare and contrast pyramids.

Online Web Resource No.4 - KIDS CRAFTS

This website is mainly a crafts website. The interesting part is that they use food to do their crafts. And as you can see from the picture, kids can be creative when they are allowed to think out of the box. I think this website is a good source for ideas for students to get ideas for food presentation especially when they do their food practicals or coursework.
